Review on Dorman Solutions 931 209 Actuator Motor by Tony Cole

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Poor production but much cheaper than OEM. It took a few surgeries but worked

I couldn't find an OEM replacement except through a GM dealer for my 2000 Silverado 1500 which is ridiculously expensive. Couldn't find just the drive part unless you have at least 3 end caps. One of the connecting rod clamps is too wide for the connecting rod. It crashes every time you turn the key. I tried bending the plastic, it didn't work. I ended up repotting part of my old OEM lock to make it work, but it took some skill to do without damaging the tiny plastic part. My other issue is that you have to really slam the door to close it completely. It's not something you should have done before or something that can be configured, so I don't think it could have been an installation issue. And yes, I lubricated it, although everything seemed lubricated. Eventually, however, my electric locks are working again and I saved a lot of money on the OEM option, hence the 3 stars. I hope the lock breaks in time. Didn't want to wait to try and replace as I assume they are all like that. And a word to the wise - if you're replacing this, it only takes six bolts to get the power window/rails/motor out. You might want to lube everything while you're there and replace the window regulator motor ($20-30). Annoying later when you have to take everything apart again. I got it from AutoZone and it has a lifetime warranty. Also, don't forget to lubricate everything you can before reassembling the door. I found some white lithium grease in a spray can which made the job easier.

Pros
  • Long repair - cycle testing in real vehicle doors confirms effective use for years
Cons
  • old
