I don't know why our closet door didn't stay open but it was getting quite annoying. After doing quite a bit of research and narrowing down that this guy was what we were looking for, there were a few more options to choose from. Ultimately, my wife chose this model because of the width, thinking it might make work easier as she is disabled. Used on carpet. Once the door is where we want it, it's very easy to drop the doorstop and snap it into place. Even better, according to my wife, how easy it is to gently step on a wide piece to let it all go! So far it is a very good doorstop!
