Looks good but screw heads are easy to remove

The cortex system works well and the end caps look great. However, the screw heads tear off easily. When installing the 4' x 16' deck I pre-drilled all the holes but 4 screws stopped flush with the composite deck. Screw heads are easily torn off when trying to loosen or redo a screw. What now? I'll try a screw extractor or drill out the head of the screw.
