Cheese slicer is a good addition to a person's kitchen if you eat cheese in the quantities I sometimes can (read: too much). This particular cheese slicer has several disadvantages. The weight of the handle unbalances this cheese slicer. Maybe I'm picky but judging by the look of the item in the pictures you can imagine the light weight of the board yourself (maybe I'm crazy) but unfortunately without anything placed on this cheese slicer and then pressed down it is Not. balanced.2. The circlips holding the lever at the pivot under the slicer allow for significant play. This causes the wire to rub against the edge of the groove as it descends. Leads me to suspect that this may cause excessive wear on the metal shavings. Not confirmed, just a disturbing speculation. But that's a reduction in the food I'll eat, so the safety standards are a little higher than, say, a similar "adequately constructed" shoe rack. I am adding this to the Live and Learn section of my Amazon Purchases.
