Does the job but doesn't depend too much on tipping over if the lamp body isn't parallel to the longer side of the base. It is best to mount the aquarium stand using either the supplied rubber feet or, if this is not possible, place something heavy on the base to keep it balanced. All parts of this stand are metal, but don't expect it to look trendy. It didn't seem like the design aesthetic was a priority when it was manufactured. The screw terminals hold the pieces together tight and tight, again they really just get the job done so I like that.
