Review on Kwikset SmartCode 912 Z-Wave Plus Keyless Entry Electronic Deadbolt with Tustin Lever Featuring SmartKey Security in Satin Nickel Finish by Stephen Russian

Bad keyboard right out of the box. Rating updated. Replacement works but quality control issues.

I have several of these Zwave lock sets. They can be attuned to a bear, but that was easy. However, they have fallen in price in the last 10 years. No longer heavy good metal, but thin metal. My problem was a bad keyboard. I got tired of reconnecting the cable between the keyboard and the rear lock several times, but it didn't work. I called Quickset support to no avail. You can replace the keyboard, but shipping takes 7-10 days. So I try again and get the Revain exchange form. I will update this post when I install a new one. I have other Zwave locks. Yale and Schlage. no questions. But I'm willing to try again. This is an update I shared with Revain. The second lock is a little different. Right from the start I noticed that the end of the cable that connects to the board actually had the word UP printed on it as the instructions said. The original didn't have any, but both have a key/notch that ensures it can only be inserted one way. I understand the quality control is poor. The second lock works! But I had to sand down the bowl shaped piece of metal as it was about 1/4 inch long to prevent the indoor unit from being screwed to the door. My door is a standard door size, the replacement block fits well replacing another standard door lock. So the problem with these locks is the lack of quality control, the first defective keyboard and incorrect labeling of the connector. The second bowl shaped piece was too long. So if I didn't have a grinder to trim the piece it would be returned. The ZWave connection is good, but I'm only 4 feet from the hub. So I can't say if long distances are a problem. The lock works fine. Keep in mind that it's not a deadbolt, it's a standard door lock, so it's not the best in terms of security, but it suffices for my use. I give 2 stars, nothing more. as Kwickset really needs to stop selling these devices until they improve their quality control. If you can stick to Schlage or Yale. Much better locks and lock sets.
