The drainage system for these Bosch dishwashers has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that mechanical filters are very efficient and keep out food particles, labels and other things. The downside: if you put off cleaning the fine filter for too long, it will clog with grease and pasty residue, water will flow back, the washing machine will stop with an error code, and you'll end up with a mess. So buy a replacement filter unit like this one. Change them every two months BEFORE you screw up and wash the spare filter in the top basket for next use. The exchange is easy. This filter is the same as my original and the cost works well saving time and effort.
