Review on Crescent AC210VS Tools Wrenches Adjustable by Will Powers

It's a wrench! Edit: They could do better

Bought this to replace my old crescent wrench. My last one died after using it as a hammer in distress, a 1 star hammer but a 5 star wrench. (The ones I used as a hammer. Yes) But my new one has problems. and the new one i got from amazon also has problems. I got the first. unpacked and thrown away the old one. After 2 days I noticed (yes I'm surprised I didn't need it for 2 days) that there were marks on the adjustable jaw that looked like those from a cutting wheel. My guess is that they accidentally changed the angle while flattening the lower jaw, or maybe the machine got stuck or a piece fell off. in any case, there were deep cuts. They worked like teeth on the fittings I worked with. I found out about the $1500 Toto showerhead. left a nice copper scratch. So I emailed the Crescent and sent the wrench to the rough install. I never got a reply from Crescent. So I figured I'd just get a replacement from Amazon. It was probably an isolated case. A replacement arrived and I wasn't impressed. I took two wrenches and compared them. Not so important things first: I can say that they were cast with the same mould. In fact, the replacement was made after the original. I can see that from the fact that the slight distortion in the casting at the top of the perimeter was a bit worse than in the first case. Also, the pin that holds the snail was set much deeper on the original than on the replacement. Neither has anything to do with the performance of the key, but it is an indicator of how strict quality control can be. Second, the actual problems: I've already discussed machine marks from the original key. Well, this novelty has another problem. The upper thread of the worm was not cut / screwed in deep enough. So when the jaw is almost fully extended, the worst screw will make contact with the non-slotted part of the adjustable jaw, meaning it will get stuck. then I have to shake it enough to get it through. I am extremely disappointed. I've never had any problems with these keys. other guys in my group have them and love them too. Maybe I was just unlucky and got two bad keys. but something tells me that the apex tools might be cutting corners. Two bad keys in a row is a sign that quality control might be weak. The lack of a response from customer service suggests they don't have enough people to help with all queries. I'll probably take a dremel and just finish the thread pattern on the top of the worm gear. I need a working tool now, not in two days (sorry Amazon Prime is still not fast enough for me!). Next time I will consider a different brand.

Pros

Cons
  • Weak
