This is the first filter sock I've ever owned. I used them when starting my new 90 gallon salt water tank. So far they've worked well. To clean, I just douse them with hot tap water a few times and then let them air dry. Aquarists will scold me for using tap water instead of RODI water, but I've had no problems. Each sock lasts approximately 2-4 days depending on feeding and bacterial load. When they are very dirty I soak them in hot water with some bleach and they turn amazingly white. Then I wash them several times and let them air dry for a couple of days. Make sure there is no bleach smell before putting it back in the tank. Chlorine bleach evaporates and I have had no side effects from bleaching. I would buy again if I needed more. Oh, and buy at least 2 so the other is in the tank while one is cleaning/drying. I can get a few more so I don't have to clean them right after removing them from the tank.
