Great idea! My three local big box stores didn't have extension hoses, and I didn't want to carry them around to eat/cut weed. It's awesome! I used a Montalvo cut-off wheel (caution if you use a grinder and a cut-off wheel, use safety gloves, goggles and a face shield (you can rent a grinder or borrow a friend and buy a wheel at a hardware store)) and a Grinding machine to make cuts in gutter extensions. I went to a gutter company and they cut me 4 foot pieces of downspout. I just measured the distance between the hinges and the angle is just over 45. Then load the extensions into a vise (with a wrapped towel!) and use a disc to slice, file the rough edges and do a rough fit check. You can simply place the loops on the grooves of the bottom groove while checking the cut pieces. Lubricate the loops (I used motor oil) and finish before attaching. When you're done, trim the corners and the hinge works, the "screws" are usually easy to drill directly into the metal. Use leather work gloves to do this. Insert a finger to hold the hinge in place (so it doesn't move) while you drill the "tap". I couldn't figure out what the tiny pieces of strip metal in the package were. directions are not clear. You use them to keep the extension going. I took the strips of metal and bent the ends slightly, using pliers to hold the center and tip of a needle to bend each end. Then fold the extension and place a strip of metal over the extension so the bent end just covers/holds the edge and the hole in the strip can be drilled into the lower gutter/pipe. Mark the hole with a pencil. Practice moving the extender and aligning the bent end of the metal strip so that it tilts to the side and then pivots down to hold the extender in place. Then, using the same "self-tapping screws", screw the screw into the pre-drilled hole in the metal strip. Tighten the strip with a hand screwdriver. Mine were too loose at first and the wind flipped 3 of them and they fell and my rotties barked at them! If you screw up and the hole is in the wrong place then use jb welding or metal spatula and insert into the drilled hole, allow to dry, sand (with a Montalvo wheel) and paint over. And either order another pack of self-tapping screws, I believe they're 5/16 (that's the power head that comes with the hinges and screws... but you always drop a few in the grass!) or buy a pack from the store. hardware store.
