I love heavy duty and this extension definitely is! I personally think the designer/manufacturer got a little carried away. I have a cabin-high cape on my truck and I'm 72 years old and I shouldn't throw my canoe on the roof rack anymore. So I bought this bed extender. I have a hitch lock, but if you want the entire body extension to be yours when you load your canoe back in, you'd be better off removing it and locking it in your truck. It is very HEAVY to lift when assembled. I'm an old retired welder/construction machine builder/construction iron and a few metal gauges would be more than enough to make it easier and it would be a lot easier to work with!
