I used it to make maple syrup. I loved the automatic temperature compensation, but didn't realize that the ATC range is only 10 to 30Β°C. I tested my boiling juice and took it off the burner at 67 Brix. Checked it again after it cooled down and it's 71 Brix. It is necessary to let the sample cool down before testing, even though it's just a drop, so it needs to cool down very quickly. The kit comes with instructions and materials for calibration, I have not used them. I tested basic accuracy with olive oil, which is good enough for my needs. The repeatability seems to be very good for instrument and sample at room temperature. Compared to a hydrometer, it is much faster and easier to use, requires a much smaller sample, and is much more reliable. It also currently costs less than any hydrometer and cup combination.
