Review on Patons Classic Wool Roving Yarn by Summer Hendricks

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Very uneven yarn count

I bought two skeins of this Classic Roving in Frosted Plum and started knitting a hat for my new coat. Everything was going well until I was almost halfway done, at which point the yarn suddenly got a lot thinner. It was about half the size it should have been and got so thin in places I thought it might break. I knitted a few more rows hoping the yarn would return to its normal bulk #5, but that never happened. I knitted on size 10 needles and the first 3 1/2 inches of this hat was knit in nice, full, plump stitches that I couldn't see when examining the knit. As the yarn thinned, the stitches became so fine that I could see through them if I held the knit up to the light. I checked the size of this thinner section and the stitches were 5 per inch, not 4 per inch on regular gauge. As far as I could see what was left of the ball of yarn I was working with was much thinner. I rolled the 2nd strand into a ball and carefully inspected each piece of yarn for thin spots, but all looked fine. Faced with an uncomfortable dilemma. Do I rip rows made with finer yarn and hope to pick up all those stitches? I just attach a new ball of yarn and continue, hoping the thinner rows don't affect the finished hat too much? I will definitely finish the hat with this second ball of yarn, but I will definitely NOT buy this product again.
