Our Promaster tailgate latch failed after 5 years. OEM part shipping is $260; this one costs only $100 (round numbers). It was an exact match except the cable box was blue on the original and black on this one. OEM was made in Germany; this one is in China. Anyway, we removed the old one and installed this one. Sounds easier than it is, but it's doable for people with reasonable mechanical skills. The electrical connector is a bit tricky (same goes for the German or Chinese part) and it's important that you also remove the outside door handle/latch to make this unit easier to access. But once you get the hang of it, just unplug the old one and plug in the new one. I don't know how long it will last, but after installing it worked. The job took about 2 hours because we worked slowly, documenting our steps and noting how much force we used removing or installing parts. My wife and I are retired and we made it, and so can you. Of course, we saved $160 on parts, and I spent $300 or more on dealers.
