submersible? (Not really!) Trailer Light

I swapped out the left and right LED trailer lights on a Harbor Freight folding cargo trailer. They were easy to install and brighter than the lights that came with the trailer. I hope these LEDs put an end to the nasty bulb and fuse replacement cycle I went through with that cargo trailer. BUT I would NOT install these lights on a BOOT trailer. These appear to be lower quality "Made in China" base LEDs. Although the packaging and advertising says they are submersible I see no difference between them and regular LED trailer lights. They don't look very well sealed and aren't hood lamps. With capped lanterns, the bulb and electrical system are in a self-draining air pocket. The seals on these eventually fail under pressure by sinking while the boat is being loaded. Since there is no drain, water will eventually get into these lights. This water and condensation will cause corrosion and eventually short out the wiring and/or LEDs. It should also be noted that the wire ends and connectors are clearly not intended for marine use. The wire ends are NOT tinned and the connectors have a simple automotive butt crimp. For a truly watertight connection, you'll need to provide your own. Considering I only use them on a cargo trailer I will keep them but if it was a boat trailer they would be back.
