Review on Acer XV273K Pbmiipphzx: Ultra HD 4K Gaming Monitor with DisplayHDR400, 144Hz & Built-In Speakers by Day Simmons

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good monitor despite major limitations when using G-Sync

I give this monitor 3 stars because it is a quality monitor that will work for most people. Unless you care about G-Sync and HDR. These issues should be better articulated and made clearer to buyers. My device had no glare or dead pixels. Uniformity wasn't outstanding, but perfectly acceptable. I have decided to return the monitor as there are issues with G-Sync and HDR when using an nVidia graphics card. Although nVidia has certified this monitor as G-Sync compatible. This difference means that the basic G-Sync feature works and, in my experience, barely works. The monitor cannot run G-Sync at 144 Hz. The G-Sync range is 48-120fps at 120Hz. It also can't use G-Sync and HDR at 120Hz simultaneously without using a setup app. The overdrive is also fixed at "normal" level with G-Sync, you can't adjust it. To enable G-Sync and HDR, you can install an Acer utility that puts the monitor in HDR and G-Sync mode. remains active. I tested it in games and with the nVidia G-Sync Pendulum demo and it worked. Sounds good right? Just because it works doesn't mean it works well. When tested in games, HDR was completely broken and colors were completely washed out and squashed. And sometimes even wrong. Thing is, you're at the mercy of the game developers and the monitor's own ability to do adaptive sync + HDR. In my case with the games I tested it just didn't work. Compared to its 'sister' monitor, the G-Sync version XB273, the difference between day and night comes down to the G-Sync module taking control. . I thought HDR wouldn't work in the games I tried, but now they all work using the XB273. All in all a much better experience in every way which I won't talk about here. In summary, this monitor works with G-Sync but is very weak compared to true G-Sync monitors. I had to deal with most of these problems after the purchase. If you have a GTX 10 or 20 series graphics card and are interested in what I've mentioned here, spend the extra cash on a true G-Sync option with a G-Sync module.
