So far, so good. A working null modem adapter.

The packaging says I can communicate between two PCs using this cable and a DB9 connector on another computer. I'm writing a telecom program and needed to be able to debug the program on my PC and another physical device. I was able to connect reliably at speeds up to 230 Kbps. It's twice as fast as 115 Kbps on a PC with a hardware UART, so I'm happy with that. As others have said, this is connected as a NULL MODEM or DCE device. In most cases this is not the cable you need and you will need a DTE connector. This is for connecting two computers, not for connecting a computer and a modem.

Pros

Note that the interface is a 9-pin RS232 socket. Before purchasing this USB to serial port adapter with Prolific PL2303 chipset (NOT FTDI chip), make sure your serial device is equipped with a 9-pin connector.
