I am buying this lock as a secure lock for a secret door in my dressing room where I want to hide my valuables. I chose a magnetic lock for its unobtrusive appearance (no obvious features like a handle or keyhole, which defeats the purpose of a "hidden door"), locking strength, and lack of moving parts so it's quiet with no parts smearing or accident. My setup is pretty simple: a padlock, an old power supply from my Sirus radio, and a Christmas light remote to turn it on and off. I'm also planning to hook up a power supply to my old UPS so the lock will stay secure for at least 3 hours in the event of a power outage. Now for my pros and cons. Pros: Relatively easy to install. All you need is a good drill and you'll get the hang of it quickly. My door will give way before I can pull the panels apart, it really holds there. quiet work. You can toggle the lock on and off without anyone noticing. Cons: I said it's relatively easy to install, but you still need basic skills as you need basic electrical and woodworking skills to install it. You must properly align the base plate with the magnet to hold it firmly in place, any misalignment of the plates will result in a less than satisfactory result. The device heats up (which is actually good in cold weather to keep the lock from freezing) and uses about 5 watts of power to operate. Overall a good buy for me and if in your application you think this type of blocking is best for you then money well spent.
