about a year or two ago the zone switch relay on my boiler started flickering and making all sorts of electrical noises and it would take a few minutes to die turn on the heater properly. When I called the HVAC technician to come out and look at the system, he almost immediately determined that the zone valve was faulty. By disconnecting the valve from the circuit, the switching relay stopped sneezing and the boiler system was back in working order. The HVAC guy tells me the motor needs to be replaced, but he doesn't have one. If he does, he'll call me and replace him. The HLK guy never calls back. I started browsing the internet a bit. Found this to be a common problem. A very simple do-it-yourself solution. All my zone valves were Honeywell brand and I found this to be a cheaper and supposedly more durable Valemo replacement. I fixed it myself. Went to the zone thermostat and turned it on to get the boiler to work. Then I heard the THBBFT pop up again from the zone switch relay. I replaced the batteries in the thermostat for the trouble spot and everything is working great again - the problem could have been a bad battery in the thermostat all along > : ( Luckily this Valemo motor runs and works as intended. I have one of the reviews read here on amazon says their Valemo doesn't fully close the valve. And yes, manually opening and closing the valve seems to be the case. Valemo behaves differently than Honeywell and is stiffer. But test the motor by playing with thermostats and feels the pipes, Valemo actually opens and closes the valve fully as it is supposed to.I don't know if that guy had a bad motor or installed it incorrectly.Replacing the old motor with this one was very easy and simple with my own hands. It took me 15 minutes.
