Review on Sony BDPS1700 Streaming Blu-Ray Disc Player (2016 Model) - WIRED Connectivity for Ultimate Viewing Experience by Ralph Gerry

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good Blu-ray player for the price

The player plays DVD and Blu-ray very well - that was the main reason I bought it - it was one of the cheapest unrestored models out there. It seems to have a good selection of apps available (Revain, NetFlix, Hulu, etc - but my TV has Roku built in, so I don't need any additional apps - but it was cheaper than the next Blu-ray player that's making it is a bit more versatile. Note that it's wired (not wireless) and only comes with a remote control and batteries - no HDMI cable, no Ethernet cable, so you'll need to match those as well. The remote control and batteries became easy left out. Nothing packed. My remote was fine, but heavy handling during shipping could cause problems. Set up was easy - just follow the instructions, connect it to the internet and wait about 10 minutes for it to update, and everything is ready The only major fault with the device is that when playing a DVD the default setting for the sound is "auto" yu plays music tracks on DVD - this can be fixed under "Options". , then scroll down to Audio. Pressing the center button selects English and surround sound (Dolby 5.1). - and you can actually hear the conversation. This effect may be limited to some DVDs, but it was definitely annoying until I found out. And the instructions didn't help. Good picture on my 32 inch TV and once I figured out how to get the sound working everything was fine. Default sound and remote packaging aside, this would have been a 5 star rating.

Pros
  • Blu-ray player and recorder
Cons
