I'm the type of guy who spends hours setting up woodworking equipment before I start cutting. I couldn't find my old Tri-Square so I did a quick search to get a set and get myself to work on my bathroom remodel/new vanity I'm building. I didn't want to spend a lot as I was hoping mine would show up and end up in my baby closet hmm. Anyway, it comes in multiple sizes, so it's very convenient to use different tools like table saw, jointer, drill press, miter saw, router table, etc. It was surprisingly good. heavy with beautiful finishes. If anything, they can be handled too well, which means I try not to cut myself on the edges when handling them. All were also dead on the square. If you do your standard line test, which involves drawing a line and reversing it, there is an obvious sloppiness. However if you have other squares you just have to keep the validation square orientation by flipping the new square you want to validate and if it is perfectly aligned in both directions then it has no choice and it fits perfectly. Square. Some of these reviewers turn to technical or complex tasks when actually the area check is quite simple. Also, it is claimed that most of these top squares are accurate to 0005 or so, which is a sheet or two of paper. For wood, a span of 3-6 inches doesn't matter. If I had one complaint it would be the oil used to protect it. I have no problem with aiming as you often have similar guards in tools like cutters. My issue is that during manufacture and packaging, the oil leaks out of the pouch and seeps into a cute little tote bag. For me this led to the removal of the protective foam as when working with wood I have problems when this oil returns to the area and I touch the wood. But it's a little underwhelming and given the cost the fact that they have a case is a win so can't really complain. I'm surprisingly happy and by the way I ended up testing them on my VERY expensive Tri Square and they were all excellent. I'm sure you might run into a quality control issue, but those complaining guys should probably just shell out a few hundred bucks for a 5 inch square. . It comes down to understanding your needs and being reasonable. I do wood carving as a hobby but I did it professionally for a while. I also won best show in high school during a contest against US Western, which got me a new table saw and a scholarship to BYU. So I assure you, I am a type A person who is meticulous about setting up a tool and a good end result. I also have the best woodworking tools, but you have to choose your battles. Paying another $170 for a high-end machine square or indicator tool is a little unreasonable, especially when you know you can get them for such a good price. It doesn't cut, it doesn't have power, all it does is trim your tools. If it's a few thousand cheaper, you won't notice a difference, and you'll probably see it for another $100, so what. Take that extra $170 and put it into high end bits, blades, jigs, etc. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again, in fact I would in a heartbeat.
