Review on ๐Ÿ”ฎ Everyday Purple Grey Plaid Premier Yarns by Karla Richter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

For experienced knitters ONLY

It took me hours (no exaggeration) to get everything set up to work as it should. You definitely need to watch the video to get it right (or watch multiple videos, multiple times in my case). I'm a very experienced knitter and crocheter, but alas! this is a very complicated thing. If you don't have the patience to keep copying your work throughout the project, try something different, but don't try to make your own plaid yarn. ** However, once it started, I was very, very satisfied. I think I'm a masochist but I feel like it was worth it. If you do decide to give it a try, here are a few tips: * It helps to think of colors as numbers unless you have the exact same yarn as in the video to show how it's used. Each strand has four colors and some color changes are more obvious than others. This grey-purple yarn is available in black, anthracite, light gray and purple. It was a poor choice for my first attempt at making this blanket. * You will cast on more stitches than you can use. The first row of the chain will not match anything in the pattern, so don't look for it or expect it. If so, ignore it as it will throw you back to the second line. * Each line is NOT modeled on the previous line, but on the line below THIS line. You'll see this more clearly after you've got about six rows. * There will be spots with single color puddles. This is part of the template. Because of this, looking at the second row will help you find color changes. Which side are you working on? I must have broken my chain, knitted three rows and started at least five times. Maybe more since I've also paid for hook sizes and also had trouble getting it started properly. occurs. Expect to do this regularly. Usually each color change consists of four stitches (i.e. sc plus c1 - if you use this yarn you'll see what I mean). just enough for the required number of stitches, so you have to make it very tight to get the color shift in the right place; and other color changes are too long and you have to go back and make your stitches much bigger to get it right. * I increased the hook size, although they tell you not to worry about that. What. I crochet and especially knit in general. I tried reducing the size of the hook as I could NOT get it to work with a size I hook recommended for yarn. Also, most of the videos show people working with hooks that seem a lot smaller than me, but whatever. * DO NOT START your project right away. Buy a skein and try on a mini quilt pattern before buying for a full project and working on a specific project. I wanted to make baby oatmeal but after reading about other people's experiences with this yarn I thought it would be best to try it first. I'm very glad I did. Yarn is too expensive if you don't know what you're doing. * The yardage is good and the yarn is soft. I love this yarn but I think it's overpriced if it's out of stock. Visit the Premier website for a lower price. * If you're making something more than just a scarf and want to be smart and experiment first, make a few color changing kits. I made two sets of color changes, so twice the width of the scarf, to experiment with bunting. MODULE THAT CAN HELP FROM THE TIME: At the end of each row you should insert 2 ch and turn. There were a few times that I had to adjust and rotate CH 1 to get the next color change right. There were also times when I had to step back a few inches from the previous row, loosen the loops and ch 2 big to get the color change in the right place on the next row. Do what you need! Color shifts are REQUIRED, and you can't let go of one of these even a stitch or she'll likely shift everything later. Much luck! You will need it. But I think you'll find it's worth the effort. Once you get it right, it will feel like magic. I bought more and am making two full blankets. It looks amazing.
