DYI Lamp Base Replacement

I used it as a ballast for the base of two lamps, a reading table lamp and a floor lamp. The inner plaster of the base is both cracked and crumbled. Even expensive lamps these days have plaster of paris instead of the heavy iron inlays they used to have. With age or when they are knocked over, the plaster crumbles like sand and in the end there is a lamp that can no longer stand. Not wanting to throw away very beautiful lamps, I tried this tone. The YouTube video suggests using Quikcrete cement, but then you have to pour it into the lamp cord. This tone is malleable so you can keep the cable channel. I smoothed it out with a metal ruler that was easy to clean while the clay was wet. This clay shrunk a little on the sides of the lamp base (the box said so), but luckily it stuck to the top of both bases. I filled the edge tears where it had shrunk with a hot glue gun and used that glue to reattach the paper and felt base. Both lamps are again in perfect condition.
