Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Mityvac MVA6851 Fluid Extractor: A Manual Tool for Efficient Extraction, 7-1/2 in. L, White and Black by Jason Cartwright

Favorite syringe pump so far!

I've bought quite a few of these tools, from syringe pumps like this one to in-line pumps and screw-on pumps, and so far this has been my favorite. This happens for several reasons, but primarily because the device clamps and locks the hose. This is extremely useful when dealing with more viscous liquids such as gear oil. All the other tools I've used don't have this feature and if you use too much force (which can be tricky at first with some tools) the hose will pop out due to the pressure transfer and you'll end up spraying. liquid is everywhere. In addition to the attachment hose, it is very easy to apply force through the piston and everything works very well. I just changed the diff fluid and it quickly refilled the block. The instrument is very well built as far as I can tell, with graduated markings at the tip of the tube. The only thing that confuses me is that the overall capacity is pretty small, but that can be risky as some of the larger tools are significantly less handy. Additionally, the included manual lists part numbers for consumables (e.g. piston seals) which can be helpful if you intend to use the tool for a long period of time. One of the challenges with these types of instruments is handling different types of liquids and avoiding cross-contamination. This tool is easy to disassemble for cleaning, but if you regularly clean the tool completely, you will increase the rate of seal failure. Being able to buy replacements is vital in the long run. The next job I plan to do with the tool (to be honest and the original reason I bought it as I have other pumps that I use to fill transmissions/diffs as I mentioned) is draining the brake fluid from my calipers so I can change them. I hope the size of the tubing and what you have will fit my outlet valves and be of sufficient volume to pull the liquid out properly.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Not everything fits
