Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Mini VCI J2534 TIS Techstream Cable - Advanced OBD2 Diagnostic Cable for Optimal Support with TIS Techstream by Tony Wilson

This cable will work: Tools and equipment

I just bought a used Lexus GX 460 that only came with a key fob. I had to program another key without a costly trip to the dealership and as an auto repair shop myself I want access to more information than a regular OBD reader can give me. It's great to have this in my toolbox. I've encountered issues with previous vehicles where a particular part was available and easily replaceable but needed to be 'calibrated' using the dealer's software. It took me a few tries but this cable works perfectly. I used VirtualBox to create a 32-bit VM running Windows 7. I use a MacBook Pro so it was my only choice, but if I had a Windows laptop I still wouldn't use Toyota software directly with my OS. Create a virtual machine with an old version of Windows, install it there, and when you're done you can close it and safely save the virtual machine on a flash drive until you need it again. after connecting this cable to your computer, adapting the USB device to the virtual machine and confirming the connection with the provided software. Next you need to make sure you select the correct driver in the Toyota TIS app menu. By default the regular Toyota driver is selected and the driver labeled XHorse must be selected or else it will not connect. All of this happens while you're sweating in the garage, balancing your laptop on the center console and wondering why it keeps saying it can't connect to your car.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • No instructions
