Alternative to OEM distributors

Quilt Lady Hubby Review: Put a pair of these on a friend's 2004 Titan. They fit well with no leaks, but I took a good look at them before installing them as some have reported incomplete welds. I couldn't see anything from the outside, so in a dark room I stuck a peanut-shaped lightbulb on a couple of wires connected to a 12-volt battery down each tube and checked to see if there was light outside. Yes, not an exact test, but the best I could think of. Didn't want to flood her with H2O. Dorman may have "split" (pun intended) the welders because the welds weren't that terrible. My biggest complaint was not being able to get a bushing on the right hand side under the header bolt itself due to interference in the pipe. The only way to tighten this nut was the old fashioned method of hooking a wrench on a 14mm wrench to the nut. This is not a job for the faint hearted or mechanically disabled. I've been a tech (no PU trucks) for 40 years and had a hard time doing this on the floor in my garage. It was 4WD so the front differential was an extra hurdle to get around, maybe 2WD is easier? The old distributor nuts were VERY TIGHT and it took extra force with a piece of pipe on a 1/2" ratchet and they came loose with a loud bang! The gaskets were great but it's a shame they don't have gaskets between the secondary catalytic converters included. And the rest of the exhaust. I recommend buying OEM metal gaskets for them. They seal better than aftermarket fabric gaskets. I will update my review if there are any issues.

Pros
  • Outstanding performance
Cons
  • The list will be long.
