I love my Fluval Chi but like other Chi owners my biggest issue with the design is the amount of water evaporation and of course. . suicidal fish sweaters. The lid helps solve the fish problem and since I put the lid on I haven't found any fish or ghost shrimp outside the tank. Unfortunately, the evaporation is just as strong as before the coating. I'm sure the lid helps a bit, but it's not very noticeable. However, I notice that these covers get "dirty" very quickly. Drops of water will dry on the top, hanging drops will leave marks on the bottom etc. While the cases are really easy to clean with a little water and grease, if you want them to look nice this is a weekly chore. That being said, while I've seen the Chi's price drop to the $5-6 mark (but down to $16!), it still feels pretty overpriced for what it is. If you can get your hands on cheap polycarbonate or acrylic it should work just as well if you don't mind a little DIY.
