I've been using kitchen towels and cooking on gas stoves for decades. Over the years I've used kitchen towels that are all or mostly cotton with no issues with sticking or flammability. One of these towels recently caught fire about 5 inches from a gas flame. I just noticed that many of these now have linear patches of melted pile, probably because I fold them up and use them as oven mitts to get very hot items out of the oven or grill. I will mostly have to resort to cotton towels, at least for the way I use my kitchen towels. (It is made of 80% polyester and 20% polyamide).
