Review on πŸ”¬ Apera Instruments Precision and Versatility – Portable Multi Parameter Accuracy by Eric Williamson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Fast, Accurate, Easy to Read, Bulky

Summary: I like the meter and although expensive it is fast and accurate and I'm glad I bought it. Detail: I already had a pen ph meter behind the Apera, but I needed a meter with more reach so I could see the readings clearly. I really like this meter and although it is quite expensive I think it saves me a lot of time to check my pH and EC with the same meter and I don't have to mess with hard to reach places. I was a bit confused when calibrating this because it claims an accuracy of 0.01 but is not within 0.01 in the calibration solution immediately after calibration. I called and spoke to customer service about this and they explained that this doesn't mean it isn't exactly within 0.01. I don't claim to understand it, but I'm satisfied that it's accurate enough for my needs and my two Aperas give the same readings. I like the extra precision decimal. By the way, the customer service is very good and Mike is knowledgeable, professional and friendly. It's quick and easy to talk to a real person who really knows these devices. It's highly customizable, and while I haven't tried it, you can adjust the rate at which it finds a stable result depending on the accuracy you want. Caps, the PH meter cap contains a storage solution and the TDS cap has a tiny sponge filled with distilled water. They stay tightly sealed and don't leak at all, but I think these caps are a little trickier than my pen-style devices. You must be careful to loosen the PH meter cap before removing it to avoid pressure damage. It doesn't matter much, but it's more of a hassle to use quickly. The counter is much larger than I expected. It's quite bulky, but I have no point of comparison with devices of a similar style. I want to see readings from multiple sensors at the same time, but need to switch between options. It would be nice if you could set preferred measurements for the TDS meter or just view them all on one screen. Instead, you have to switch between pH, ppm, ec, etc. each time. The device starts calculating each measurement after you click on the appropriate screen, not when the probes are submerged in water, but stabilization is fairly quick. Inside is a card where you can get a free set of full-size calibration and storage solutions by submitting a review link. So I look forward to talking to them about it!
