Review on Enhanced Motorcraft DY1164 Throttle Position Sensor by Ans Brownlee

Jump from Motorcraft to avoid the spooky light wrench

My wife has a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis electric drive. Every blue moon she calls in a panic because the wrench light came on and the engine stalled. The wrench gauge indicates a problem with the drive-by-wire system. I had a different brand throttle position sensor on my car. Immediately after replacing this part and recalibrating the engine, I noticed that the idle and acceleration were smoother. I'll report back in a year when I've managed to avoid the wrench light. I've had a similar experience with a non-Motorcraft MAF sensor, which occasionally gave an error code, only on hot days and only when the engine was warm and the car was parked and restarted after a short while.
