I bought the Netgear WNR834B-100NAS wireless N router because I was looking for a cheap N router and wanted the added security features. Despite being manufactured in 2006, this device has good security features: you have a firewall, NAT, SPI, MAC address filter option and many other customizable services. The device supports multiple levels of encryption, allows you to choose the channel on which it transmits, and provides reliable signal strength and speed. That's good, now for the worse. If you are not a tech savvy person, you do not want to buy this device. I'm in college pursuing an IT degree and had to call Netgear tech support because the wifi kept dropping and the only solution was to reset it and stay away from certain websites (like twitter and yahoo). I was so angry I was willing to throw it away (wouldn't dare sell it to anyone else) and pay big bucks for a new one. I'm glad I didn't because after half an hour on the phone, including an interactive support session, the device works great, offers good speed and is very reliable. However, if you're not willing to spend a lot of time on tech support, or if you're not very tech-savvy, you should probably look at newer routers for your needs. The price might be high here, but the headache might not be worth it.
