Performance varies from device to device

This is a good product that fills a small niche market, but results can vary greatly from device to device. If you use this device to make a USB connection at a distance of more than 20 feet or so, the performance will drop quickly. This is mainly due to reduced bandwidth and errors from communication devices. If you transfer small data packets, e.g. B. Sending 1-2 pages to a printer, the problem is not that severe. It may take longer than usual to transfer data to the printer, but it should work. However, if you try to send 30 pages to the printer, there's a good chance you'll encounter enough errors to cancel the print job. other forms of communication. If you use it for video conferencing, you'll find that the latency gets longer and longer until it just stops working. Using shielded CAT6 or CAT7 instead of cheap CAT5 can improve performance somewhat in these cases. Being aware of product limitations and keeping packet transfer to a minimum can be very helpful for runs of up to 100 feet or so. I definitely wouldn't try to push it any further.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
