I bought this to test the pH of handmade soaps. While it is possible to do a "discharge test" I needed a safe backup to ensure my soap was suds free. So far I have not found soap with a high alkali content. but I also haven't found any soap that's much higher than my own tap water. It's important to remember that with a dry hand, only rip off as much as you need. If you need a more accurate pH check than the baseline, which is determined by your own ability to distinguish shades, you might want to consider a different product. For general ideas, that's enough.
