We have a TV without a remote control. Not the end of the world, but remote controls make life that little bit easier. I was a little frustrated with how many times I had to try to get this to work, I have a feeling it's because I didn't fully understand the instructions. Once I've done it, I feel like I can do it again successfully if the need arises. The battery compartment confused me too. After figuring it out, I had to do face palms. It's really well built and I use it for my home theater all the time. As mentioned, the second red button here is the reprogram button, so I keep the remote out of cats' reach and have had no problems with it.
