First of all they are easy to install, just slide them over the ball stud. I would recommend a second person to hold the lift gate, especially if you are working in cold weather. Trust me your head is no crutch, even with a simple install it takes longer to remove old ones than to install new ones. For my power liftgate application they keep it high enough for the gate to know it's open and not offer too much resistance for it to close easily. The factory ones lasted 8 years and I doubt I'll keep the car for another 8 years but if they fail I'll update the review with the timing.
