Forget the fixed voltage

This thing is small, surprisingly and impressively small, great for incorporating into a project. It's small enough to only use 4 pins (2.54mm spacing) to hold it in place. The overall design is great to incorporate into a project if you're comfortable with an adjustable knob. I tried cutting the path indicated by 3 of 5 but couldn't break the continuity between the sides of the pot areas, one of the 3 I accidentally destroyed in the process. Using the simple POT setup path it was fairly easy to set 2 of these to 5.1-5.2v. It currently powers a Raspberry Pi 3 and the Pi hasn't made any low voltage complaints, and adding the Pi load showed less than 0 drops .1V so it seems pretty reliable. If the design didn't require cutting a trace to unplug the potentiometer and just "soldering any pad" I would give it 4 stars. With such a small size it's really difficult to work with and the distance between adjacent pads and between vias and capacitors is so small that random jumpers would be very light and they're so small and 100% covered by components. I don't know of any board holder that would work.

Pros
  • High efficiency and ultra-compact size, high frequency and low ripple, stable operation, wide range of applications, this 12V to 5V converter is a good component for repair work.
