The advantage of using brass screws is that they can be cut to length relatively easily. Either use a thread tap or thread a nut over the top to cut and trim off the bolt, then unscrew the nut over the cut to straighten the threaded area. The second advantage of brass is that it is relatively resistant to corrosion - it darkens over time. but never rust. Brass is strong enough for most household purposes - obviously automotive or aircraft use requires stainless steel. These are well made brass screws at a reasonable price.
