fooled myself on fastening screws

The screws supplied have a rounded or pan head, not a pan head [.], so they were not perfect. The illustration is correct - I should have looked more closely.

Pros
  • Smooth surface without finishing or coating
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Soft Brass: Mounting Screws

I needed to replace a screw in the base of my router. I ordered them and they work perfectly the first time. However, brass is very soft and the threads are easily damaged, so it cannot be used a second time. I hand tightened it and didn't force it, so it's definitely the softness of the brass. 2 of the 4 screws had thread damage, one of the others broke off and had to be unscrewed with a screwdriver. I would recommend them for one time use only.

Pros
  • Brass provides corrosion resistance and thermal and electrical conductivity
Cons
  • Large and Bulky

Brass Fastening Screws

The advantage of using brass screws is that they can be cut to length relatively easily. Either use a thread tap or thread a nut over the top to cut and trim off the bolt, then unscrew the nut over the cut to straighten the threaded area. The second advantage of brass is that it is relatively resistant to corrosion - it darkens over time. but never rust. Brass is strong enough for most household purposes - obviously automotive or aircraft use requires stainless steel. These are well made brass…
