Review on ๐Ÿšฒ OneUp Components Traction Narrow Wide Chainring for 104BCD Cranks by Damion Pasquale

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Definitely an improvement

I bought this as part of my transition from a 2x10 to a 1x10 setup. I essentially rode my 2x10 like a 1x because I was only using the smaller 26-tooth chainring. When I switched to this 30 ton chain, I knew I was going to lose the ability to climb grades. To mitigate this issue I purchased a wide ratio Sunrace 10 speed cassette which essentially eliminates one of the smaller cogs (maybe a third?) and adds a larger 42 tooth cog to the stock 36 tooth. Also bought a Goat Link so the Shimano XT derailleur would work better on this big 42t gearing. The oval chain ring really looks good on the climbs. For certainty. And you don't really notice anything about the variable translation in the cadence. After a few rides with this new setup I found that I almost never used this 42 tooth gearing. If I had known then what I know now, I would not have bothered to swap out the stock 11-speed 11-36 tooth cassette. Just run an oval chain for 1x. Now that I have the 30t oval I can put it on another 2x10 bike to make it 1x10 while keeping the original cassette. Then order 32t for a wide ratio cassette sprocket.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Mostly good but...
