In the 1980's I bought Boye and Susan Bates aluminum hooks of various sizes and I liked to use both brands. My size G got lost, so I decided to replace it with one of these relatively inexpensive 3-Boye hooks. Unfortunately these hooks are not of the same quality as the old ones. The Boyes are now made in China and the workmanship is less than other shows. Yes, you can crochet with it. However, there is definitely a difference in how they move through the yarn. The hook itself is not as deep as the old Boya hooks; the conical part of the shank is shorter; and the poor surface finish is reflected in the way they cling to the yarn instead of sliding over it easily. If you like flea markets, you might want to check out old hooks. By the way, on the product page I see that a newer product is now available. Without seeing this product I can't tell if the quality has improved but I can see the price is almost 3 times what I paid for this piece of junk. As the saying goes, buyer beware.
