Great drill for what it was made for

If you need a drill for drilling cement block, brick, cement board or plaster this is the one for you. I used to read a lot of reviews about carbide hole saws and a lot of people complain that they just smoke and get very hot when drilling into wood. I'm sure they do, they really aren't built for it. However, if you're drilling through any of the materials listed above, this bit is one of the best I've used. It lasts longer than many other brands. I know this because I've bought similar ones from my local lows and menards in the past. I've used both the Lenox brand and the Morse brand, both of which I would consider well-known brands. Those grades worked, but the much finer carbide wore faster and cut slower, especially through concrete blocks. Another perk of the Magbit brand is that they specifically tell you it's safe to use in SDS mode, which I thought was a lousy translation for Hammer mode. At first I was hesitant to do it, but after drilling a 3 5/8 diameter hole in one side of the concrete block, which took about 15 minutes, I decided to give it a try. I figured, worst case scenario, I'd go a little broke and learn my lesson. To my surprise, the second half took about 20 seconds to drill through and the only noticeable difference on the drill bit was that the paint had worn away the carbide. I wish I had tried Hammer mode sooner, it could have saved me 15 minutes of pretty boring work. I have bought several sizes of the same bit and have been happy with all of them.
