Review on ๐ŸŒž Accurate UVB Testing Made Easy: REPTI ZOO UVB Tester - Set of 2 by Eric Hay

Extremely effective for relative measurements when used wisely

I wasn't expecting much from these cards, but they turned out to be very useful. As other customers have noted, there is no "table" of colors, but the purple color to the right of the color-changing sun is a good indication of what the maximum exposure from a bright sun looks like. When I tested a 100W Powersun HID lamp at 12 inches, which is considered maximum sun exposure, the card turned almost completely purple within 10 seconds of exposure. This car was basically telling me that I couldn't safely get the bulb close enough to provide enough heat without too much UV, so I moved the bulb back a few inches and added a heat bulb. Reptisun 10.0 UVB bulbs are known to give good results and turn the map about 2/3 full purple so I'll use that as the basis for what is safe and effective. This led me to a hassle-free procedure for correctly positioning almost any lightbulb. Hold the card in the basking area, a few inches above the surface where the reptile's back and head will be, for exactly 10 seconds. Half violet, bring the light closer. When the sun is almost completely purple, turn off the lights. If you cannot get a high enough temperature in this area, you will need to use a separate heat lamp in conjunction with your UV light. .Note. This card appears to work due to chemical reactions to UV radiation, so its sensitivity decreases over time. Test it regularly for 10 seconds midday in full sun to get a new baseline for relative measurements. Reptiles thrive in slightly less UV than full sun (50% - 75%) as the light tends to burn longer than direct outdoor sunlight.
