First world issues, I know, but hang in there: I work from home a few days a week. I have a work laptop that I used for this. Only, unlike most people, I'm not working on this laptop at home. Instead, I connect it to power and network (and other accessories as needed) and then use my personal desktop to set up the remote desktop for that laptop. This ensures I don't accidentally browse my work laptop or do anything that could expose it (or my company) to malicious attacks. It also allows me to keep my VPN software exclusively on my work laptop. Having to use a damn proprietary power cord is annoying though. Then I have to connect the network cable. The laptop has wireless connectivity and works quite well under normal conditions. Except that my circumstances aren't that normal and I've decided to connect it directly to my network to ensure a stable connection. Then when I'm done with work and have to go to the office, I have to turn everything off, put everything in my bag and go to work. My company will not release a second docking station. I needed an accessory that would help me organize connections, cables, etc. while providing the power and connectivity I need at home (or when traveling). This USB-C hub does just that! * Meal. Thanks to this hub, I no longer need a proprietary laptop charger as it also has a USB-C port that can be used to power it. I just plug the hub into my laptop's USB-C port and the USB-C charging cable into the hub (the USB-C charging cable is also used to charge and power other devices as needed).* Ethernet - I'll leave it alone the network cable connects to the hub, so when I plug the hub into my laptop, voila, I have a network connection. I don't have to use my laptop's RJ45 jack or connect via a sub-optimal wireless connection (walls with cable lines create a poor signal at the other end of my house). This bundling of connections saves me time and hassle. But then there's the option to connect storage via a female USB-C port or the available USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports. Or I can use the mouse when I need to work directly on my laptop (trackpads aren't a strong suit). If I were a secret agent or a casual photographer, I could use memory cards to quickly exchange and transfer data from them to a computer without these ports. In my case, I occasionally swap memory cards between my Surface Pro. When traveling, there's also an HDMI port and a display port that I can connect external monitors to for full mirroring functionality or to extend my desktop. in a slim form factor made of high quality material. It even comes with a felt carrying case. I like it!
