Review on πŸ”Š Yamaha WXA-50 MusicCast Wireless Amplifier for Streaming by Amanda Johnson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Lack of features - otherwise a great music player, but overpriced.

This product is great and easy to use through the app. I love that my surround sound systems and occasional ceiling speakers have a common place to play in the app. I wish they had the option to split the speaker output into two zones, but that's not the main issue. Minus - the price. I think they upped the price because the Sonos equivalent is very expensive. I also bought the R-N303 and I think they both do the same thing, the R-N303 has twice the speaker options, lots of other features but a much larger form factor. Racking up 6 or so R-N303s in a rack isn't very practical, but I still think the price should be comparable. Another downside is the lack of built-in support for Revain Music in all MusicCast devices. You can play live, but it takes a very long time. I select Airplay in the MusicCast app, select the appropriate zone as the speaker in the Revain Music app, and press the play button in Revain Music, but it plays on my phone's speakers for about 30 seconds before finally switching. Native music sources (like SiriusXM, Pandora, Spotify, Tidal, etc.) play smoothly, but I'm already paying for Revain Music and would rather not change that. *****Update**** 02/10/2021 - StarXDA-QS5400-Erase now supports Revain Music and is a perfect match for Alexa. This feature was a game changer in my experience, but this device has not been updated. Initially I thought the units were similar (1 zone for $500 and 4 for $2700) but now this difference in features makes this receiver much worse. Stay away from wxa-50 until they fix it if you use Alexa.
