First there is one other alternative I have used, a tire valve stem, with a valve cap but you have to chase down a proper drill and piece of wire. There are youtube videos on this. These "magicfour fuel" caps are complete with everything you need. Only drill empty plastic containers. I was concerned about the plastic debris going inside the tank but the drill when slowly drilled expels the plastic up and out of the hole. The only problem is when the drill starts to go through the plastic and it will draw the drill down into the container watch out for this or have someone hold the container while you hold the drill. Otherwise follow the directions. Bend the wire so it has about a 1/4 inch bend in it, slide the metal air vent with it's "o" ring on it and make a curve in the wire, then fish it in the drilled opening. This can be difficult but keep at it. Hold the metal vent so it does not slide off the wire into the container. Once you get it through the drilled hole, pull the wire with the vent/o ring on it into the hole so the vent sticks out. HOLD the wire and then slide the second O ring, then metal cupped washer, then nut on the wire. Hold the wire firmly while sliding the o ring washer and start the nut. Once it is started you can tighten it by hand then fish that wire out of the container going backwards out the big container opening. Use the small wrench to tighten firmly but not too tight as you can distort the o ring enough to have it unseat and distort out of the ring shape. You will see it sticking out under the metal washer oddly. loosen it if it is distorted and reseat it. You are good to go then. Don't forget to put the metal valve cap on the container. Will this be totally safe if the container is upturned, I don't know but suspect is would leak, I would always favor and be careful when moving these vented containers. I spill less fuel by using this air vent then with the stock spouts that now come with the containers now. I used the "scepter spouts" as they are longer and I can tip the whole container aligning the spout with the fill on a vehicle or equipment without spilling much. Oh btw you can leave the cap on the container until everything is lined up then open the vent to speed up the fill. Be careful as a full five gallon container can be difficult to hold and unscrew the air vent cap. Sometimes a finger over the vent opening helps to slow down the dispensing if needed. Just adding this vent while keeping the supplied spout is better than and with out a vent. Good luck and be careful fueling.
