This disc is designed for continuous recording without stopping rotation. This mostly happens in video recording systems where the video is constantly being flushed onto the hard drive. This comes at the expense of seek time and random access (reading multiple files from different areas at once is slow). Whether you're looking for backup, media storage, or network storage, look no further than WD RED drives. In these conditions, they will work better and much cheaper. The drive is very quiet compared to many other drives. No loud clicks or audible spinning noises. I have several WD RED drives alongside this system for network storage and this drive is noticeably quieter than them. I also have some Seagate NAS drives, but they are so loud that I can't even use them in my living room. In any case, this is a great disc. It was installed in a regular cheap NVR (Hisilicon Hi3520D) and works fine. Most low and mid-end DVR/NVR systems use this family of chips and the same software, so it should be compatible with all of them. The drive stores 4 streams of 1080p 24/7 and has done a great job so far over the past few weeks, looping over 8TB. The drive gets very hot in a small case and most NVR systems don't have good ventilation. . To fix this I simply screwed a 140mm fan onto the top of the recorder after cutting the hole. This keeps the drive temp around 30-40 degrees instead of 60-80 degrees and also keeps the DVR CPU cool (which was insanely hot and didn't even have a heatsink). Most NVRs have a dedicated 12V connector for an optional fan, but if they don't, you can always get power from the 12V connector or the 4-pin hard drive connector.
