Reliable purchase, guaranteed to be a good purchase.

In May of this year, the price of hard drives rose sharply. The Impulse Tech store offered the cost of the disk much lower than the market average and free shipping. Thank you very much to the manager and management for the policy of loyal prices.

A really necessary purchase, I'm glad I found this product.

One of the most reliable and optimal drives for file storage. It doesn't get very hot under load. data on the speed of an empty disk, in six months / a year I will add data on the speed of a filled one.

Pros
  • Quiet, cool. Doesn't constantly park heads like some (I won't point fingers).
Cons
  • Not as cold as they praise, but not critical.

A great option for this money, one of the best offers.

There were complaints about the packaging of ordered hard drives. Allegedly, they were poorly packaged and they were delivered to customers broken. Maybe I was so lucky, or maybe employees took into account the negative reviews, but personally my hard drive was packed in a double layer of bubble wrap and in a box. So I didn't have any problems with it. Connected - works. I am satisfied.

Bad.: Computers and accessories

Over the years I've bought many of these purple WD hard drives to capture video from our cameras. Up until recently I've always had good luck with them and they've been reliable, but I've had 3 failures in the past few months on drives that are less than a year old. WD replaced them so I'm happy with that, but I'm a little worried the quality has gone down. I hope it was an accident... The update is another bug. I tried contacting WD support regarding this but there was no response for over a…

Use it as intended and it should work exactly as intended.

This is a surveillance disk for NVR application. I assume that anyone who knows the difference will understand this and the different design of different hard drives. It's quiet with no obvious noise, it works in an Amcrest branded NVR which fits perfectly, screw holes are well aligned, cable connectors fit perfectly. I can't measure the temperature while running, but the NVR doesn't heat up or heat up at all, so that's a good sign for me. Durability - It doesn't last very long, but the WD…

Which ones to take? - Internal Hard Drives

Before you read a review, please read: There is a key issue setting up this section. For some reason a very old (2014) model of this drive is listed along with the same improved new generation model. The bad news is that user comments are mixed up, so any issues with the original drive show up at the top of the list and can be misleading. Then it's very important to look at the tiny writing at the top of each comment and see if the user is talking about old-gen style or new-gen style. To be…

Pros
  • Great Design
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging

Surveillance hard drive is completely dead after 10 months of use (writing). It only uses a small part of the hard drive. My CCTV system can no longer recognize the hard drive (beeping). Both of my computers don't see the hard drive at all. Manufacturer WD replaces the hard drive. WD asked me to return the damaged hard drive. I am very concerned about privacy. WD does not follow the industry standard for handling user data. The only way to ensure user data safety is to physically destroy the…

Not Quiet for Internal Hard Drives

I've had MANY WD drives over the years, both internal and external. I have never changed brands due to their quality (although I now use Seagate for my external devices). I've had more WD Caviar Black than I can remember and they all worked great, quiet and still work. The WD Green I previously used in our surveillance DVR was also silent. When I received this WD Purple because it was a surveillance hard drive, I expected the same quality. Unfortunately, this drive constantly makes quite loud…

INTEREST - RANDOM ERRORS

I bought this WD102PURZ because the WD Purple was the most recommended drive for 24/7/365 surveillance among the members of the IPCamTalk Forums is video surveillance. Blue Iris systems and software. When I bought it, I chose the '102' version over the '101' version, thinking (of course) the newer the better. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't been so quick and stuck with the more tried-and-true 101 instead. I even chatted with WD to see the differences between the two models as the 102 didn't even…

Great for NVRs on computers and accessories

This disc is designed for continuous recording without stopping rotation. This mostly happens in video recording systems where the video is constantly being flushed onto the hard drive. This comes at the expense of seek time and random access (reading multiple files from different areas at once is slow). Whether you're looking for backup, media storage, or network storage, look no further than WD RED drives. In these conditions, they will work better and much cheaper. The drive is very quiet…

Pros
  • Designed for 24/7 surveillance
Cons
  • Minor issues

Western Digital has always told me that their video drives are great because of their durability. And while I'm sure they're fine, they're blurring the lines in homes, and what you don't realize is that they're not really video hard drives, as they don't support ATA-8 standards. They respond to ATA-8 read requests, but when the drive starts throwing read errors, they stop the stream instead of obeying ATA-8 and delivering a transient priority stream while trying to keep correcting errors. The…
