I needed a new KVM + USB hub. I work with 3 computers and switch between them regularly. My old KVM was defective, it was 3 years old and only cost me $15 on ebay. The switch started to fail and I figured I'd buy one that uses hotkeys and fix this problem. Anyway, I bought and set up an IoGear GCS1734. The first thing I did was go to the website, register the switch and download the latest update. I started the update and the software tells me my device has a newer version than the one I downloaded! I thought it's good that there should be a new update since it's already in the new materials. The keyboard and mouse inputs were broken. I had to connect my keyboard and mouse to the hubs on the back of the switch. Now they worked with computer 1, but computers 2 and 3 didn't work. I have decided to update. This made the mouse port on the front of the Switch work, but not the keyboard. It still didn't work on computers 2 and 3. I had already spent 35 minutes with tech support before deciding to upgrade. They recommended returning the switch. Conclusion: I love the Switch concept, so I contacted Revain and asked for a replacement. I should receive it in a day or two. Once I have it set up I will update this review. I hope this works as I really like the concept and the supposed abilities. UPDATE: Well I got a replacement and had the same experience. After updating with a replacement as described in the instructions, connecting the front mouse works, and if you connect the keyboard to the rear USB port, it works on computer 1. Interestingly, when updating, the updater says that the version on my KVM is newer than stated on the website. I found it odd, but I continued. Also, the instructions are wrong. I expected better! Honestly I bought a cheap $15 KVM from China on Ebay 3 years ago and it works better. I would still use it but the switch is getting weak. It's time to reconnect and get the $15 Chinese KVM back. Too bad. I'm reducing my rating to 1 star because two devices had to be returned. UPDATE 2: Bought a used Raritan Switchman USB. i had the same problems. I went to Raritan's website and found a 2007 document listing "keyboards and mice tested". The MS keyboard I had was not listed. However, I had a wireless mouse. I took the specified keyboard and Alt! It worked. I suspect this is the same problem as the IoGear. The difference is that Raritan had some documentation showing that keyboards and mice were tested. IoGear tech support didn't even offer or provide any information. They said wireless mice might be a problem. How can you sell a USB switch that doesn't work with wireless peripherals these days?
