3dBi 2.4/5GHz WiFi Omnidirectional Bluetooth Antenna for Wireless Communications (ASIN: B08FLGM3T3) TEADALT-TECTREADALT-TEC3 Stars mean it's enough, but it is nothing special. that's a good rating. β The outer cover corresponds to the size of the inner antenna. β Build quality is decent to good. β Performance is what you should expect from any well performing 3dBi antenna. β Antenna disconnected while receiving from port 90. I have no way of testing the "throw" of this antenna but at 3dBi it is a 360 degree low gain antenna. I tested it with the 2dBi antenna I have and the reception was exactly the same between my computer and the router, about 10 feet apart (see picture). The build quality is exactly what you would expect. However, both antennas I received were detached from the joint. I just put them back on. I took it apart and the plastic cover is long enough to cover the length of the internal 3dbi antenna. In other words, the antenna's outer black plastic cover is sized to the inner actual length of the antenna (see image). This is a generic antenna and as far as I can tell it was made to specs and is of decent quality. High profit. vs low gain (low gain doesn't mean bad!) I don't think most people understand what the real difference in antennas is. Obviously the distance decreases for lower dBi antennas compared to higher dBi antennas. However, there is a trade-off here. A low gain antenna will have better 360 degree performance than a higher gain antenna. A higher gain antenna has better directivity at the expense of lesser characteristics above and below the antenna itself. Think of it like a balloon. The balloon is round and extends a certain distance from the center. As you click the balloon, the distance from the center around the outer edge increases, but the distance from the top and bottom decreases. As a result, installing a higher gain antenna in your home may or may not increase your Wi-Fi signal. . But one thing is constant. Each time you increase the gain, you decrease the high and low signal. This is important if you live in a two story house or apartment. CONCLUSION At 3 dBi, these antennas are omnidirectional, low gain antennas, pretty much the standard for any computer or router and for home use. Works well, build quality is fine.
