I bought this machine because it has a permanent filter. I learned that paper filters give you a clean cup of coffee, but they also remove the oils that give your coffee its flavor. You'll notice that the strainer leaves a small amount of sediment at the bottom of the cup, but that only improves the flavor. The shower head is only about 1 inch in diameter and has 9 holes. As long as you use coffee that requires 1 tablespoon per serving, it will saturate the coffee grounds evenly. If you use coffee, you will need 2 tbsp. However, every coffee gets wet and the taste stays good. So I'm happy with the quality of this machine for the price.
